St. Cloud, MN - Central MN Habitat for Humanity and MidCountry Bank announced their partnership in building a house for a military veteran and family. As a major sponsor of the build, this marks the Bank’s first engagement with Habitat in Central Minnesota, but not their first involvement in support of projects supporting veterans and their families in the Midwest. “We are so grateful for MidCountry’s care and support of Veterans causes through the years, and of course this major gift and partnership in our local area now; this enables us to get going on our very first Veterans Build! We already have other corporate and individual sponsors that have joined in the cause, and as more and more participate, our hope is that this will be the first of many homes for Veterans we will build in the years to come,” commented Rick Nelson, Central MN Habitat’s Executive Director.
In September of this year, ground will be broken on the lot chosen in St. Cloud, and construction will begin. The house will be built by volunteers, along with more than two hundred hours of sweat equity by the new homeowner, family, and friends. With oversight of Habitat—as with all of their builds—local contractors provide and supervise the work, and many gifts-in-kind from suppliers and builders all come together in making these homes a reality; then, the chosen homeowner will be sold the home by Central MN Habitat for Humanity with an affordable mortgage and payment.
“We’re hoping that this will be a project that not only improves the lives of a Veteran and his/her family, but that the entire Veterans community in the St. Cloud area will unite and mobilize by volunteering in this build,” says Nelson.
